Breaking News: George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and murdered an unarmed teenager, was released from jail Sunday just days after a Florida judge set his bond at $150,000.
Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney, said in court Friday that Zimmerman would probably continue to live in hiding while he awaited his trial date, as he had done for weeks leading up to his April 11 arrest on second-degree murder charges in the slaying of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Police and prosecutors in Sanford, Florida declined to arrest Zimmerman after the murder. This sparked nationwide protest over the disparities in the justice system. Then to top it off George Zimmerman bond is only $150,000! Lesser offenses have landed Blacks in jail with higher bonds. In court records of George Zimmerman’s past transgressions, which includes a scuffle with an old girlfriend and a charge of assaulting an undercover law enforcement officer, should have warranted a higher bond.
