Former North Carolina Sheriff Pat Green pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges and was sentenced to 3 and 1/2 years in prison.
Green was sentenced last week for stealing over $221,000 in public funds from Franklin County and public schools.
Judge Donald Stevenson sentenced Green but some feel as though the former Sheriff should have been tried in federal court.
Any law enforcement officer or elected official violating the very laws in which they swore to uphold should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Betraying the public’s trust is UNACCEPTABLE and a HARSHER sentence should have been given.
If you swore to uphold the US Constitution and the NC Constitution and you should be held at a certain standard and punishments for betraying the public’s trust and stealing money from the very taxpayers that he swore to protect and serve, warranted a stiffer penalty.
People who committed less serious offenses has received more time in prison than the time Green received. Police misconduct to this extent of stealing public funds should have sent Green to prison for at least 10 years.
